Tachi Palace Fights held their third event this past Thursday from the Tachi Palace Casino Resort in Lemoore, California. The Inland Empire's own Millennia MMA gym was eerily silent that evening as most of the guys who train and instruct there attended the event near Fresno.
A bout between Cole Escovedo (15-4) and Jeff Bedard (14-3) served as the headlining contest and the TPF bantamweight belt was on the line. Escovedo endured Bedard's aggression after being taken down and with the poise of a veteran, locked in a triangle midway into the first round to win the crown.
Millennia's Manny Tapia (10-4) may have ran into the wrong prospect in Michael MacDonald (9-1). After a disappointing run in WEC, Tapia lost his fourth fight in a row to the Palace mainstay after he was saved by the referee near the end of the first round.
Tapia was in trouble early and often and his improved ground defense was clear, though he seemed to have forgotten to work on his standup while he shored up that weakness. MacDonald brutalized him on the feet, rocking him repeatedly before a body blow doubled Tapia over and more strikes followed until the referee stepped in.
Another Millennia member fared a little better. Gabe Reudiger (16-5) continued both his win streak and consecutive fights with some sort of antics alive by besting Dominique Robinson (4-4) in a bout that lasted nearly a full two rounds. Both men traded regularly and though Reudiger seemed to be slightly behind in the striking battle, he managed to land a spinning back elbow that sent Robinson to the canvas. His opponent dazed, the rear naked choke required little work to lock in and garner a tap. Reudiger is now on a five fight win streak.
The card also featured a disappointing return to action by Hector Ramirez (8-4) who dropped a split decision to Anthony Ruiz (24-13). Curious judging gave two rounds to Ramirez but Ruiz was in control for the better part of all three rounds. Ramirez was an assistant coach for Team Rampage on the 10th season of UFC's The Ultimate Fighter reality show.
Nam Phan (15-7) was expected to beat Issac de Jesus (9-1) but came up short, succumbing to strikes in the first round.
